Kochi: The multi-functional Regional Sports Center (RSC) at Kadavanthra has received a shot in the arm with the Badminton Association of India (BAI) nominating it as one of the training bases for the national badminton squads.
Next year, one of the four training camps for national junior teams will be conducted at the RSC, said BAI president Dr. Himanta Biswa Sarma. Kochi would also be considered for hosting a major tournament organized by the BAI next year, he added.
According to him, emphasis would be laid on imparting training to players in the under-19 age category.
Chief national coach and former All England champion P. Gopichand and former national champion U. Vimal Kumar would be roped in to train the youngsters at the month-long camp, to be attended by 50 select junior players. The camp will have around 20 players from Kerala, he added.
