The US is bracing for Iran to make good on its vow to respond to the killing of Hamas leader Ismail Haniyeh two days ago in Tehran.
Israel has been threatened by multiple countries and groups over the killings of three high-profile figures of Hezbollah and Hamas.
Hamas neither confirmed nor denied the killing of Deif, but one official, Ezzat Rashaq, said any word on deaths of its leaders was its responsibility alone.

The latest casualties bring the total Palestinian death toll to 37,834, with 86,858 injuries reported since the outbreak of the Palestinian-Israeli conflict.
The military has claimed that the "conduct of the forces in the video of the incident does not conform to the values" of the Israeli military.
