E-visas were among the issues discussed between Prime Minister Narendra Modi and his UK counterpart, Rishi Sunak, during their meeting on the sidelines of the G20 Summit in Indonesia last month.
The steady arrival of travellers has resulted in long delays at the airport in Thailand’s capital Bangkok for immigration clearance and visa-on-arrival.
Under the new rule, visa applications will be processed directly by the Visa Section at the consulates in Mumbai, Chennai and New Delhi.
The long-term visa enables tourists to spend up to 180 days a year in the UAE.
The new tourist visa is valid for five years, and, during this period, visitors can travel between UAE and their countries multiple times.
The main attractiveness of the scheme is that those employed at companies outside the country, too, can stay and work remotely from the UAE.
A multiple entry visa enables a stay of one year but the holder cannot remain at a stretch in Saudi Arabia for more than three months.
