Chittoor: The Kerala State Film Development Corporation (KSFDC) will open 100 new theatres in the state's important cities, its chairman Lenin Rajendran said here.
He said modernisation of 30 theatres will begin this month in the first stage. The foundation stone will be laid for three cinemas at Ottapalam.
The Chitranjali Studio at Thiruvananthapuram will be upgraded to global standards. An amount of Rs 150 crore has been allocated for it.
A detailed project report is being readied. Rs 100 crore has been made available from KIIFB for development of theatres.
Rajendran, a nationally acclaimed filmmaker, vowed strong intervention against undiluted commercialism in cinema.
He said production of movies with government investment and private participation in theatre construction are under consideration. Loss-making theatres in rural areas to be modernised.
Rajendran also vowed to intervene against monopoly houses consolidating their grip on production and technology.
He said e-ticketing will be enforced immediately in all theatres to ensure that producers and civic bodies receive accurate accounts.
The KSFDC is willing to construct more theatres if local bodies can facilitate land acquisition, he said.
