Thiruvananthapuram: Drones, cameras, live online monitoring and latest technologies all fitted on a vehicle. It is not a probe intended for outer space, but will run on the roads of Kerala, monitoring a slew of works undertaken by Kerala Infrastructure Investment Fund Board (KIIFB).
Christened KIIFB Auto Lab, the vehicle also has office space and will inspect the KIIFB projects real-time and online. The garnered information will help to overcome the delay in giving sanction to each phase of public works, as the Lab will be able to evaluate work and sanction the next phase within a matter of hours.
The prototype Auto Lab, costing Rs 85 lakh, is ready and the order for it has been placed. It is expected to hit the streets next month.
The state government is undertaking Rs 50,000 crore basic infrastructure development through KIIFB in the next five years. The projects with huge investment outlay cannot be completed on time if the government opt for the traditional route of sanctioning funds with minimal staff at its disposal.
The main function of the Auto Lab will be monitoring road development projects, development of inland waterway and strengthening of KSEB electricity network.
The lab will have drones that can capture the aerial view of the work area even. Cameras will be mounted at the work site for live evaluation of work by officials and there will be also equipment to determine the quality of construction materials. A radar will gauge the depth of tarring without digging the road.
The office space inside the vehicle can accommodate up to four officials. A studio exclusively to analyse work data will be set-up in state capital.
It has been mandated that all projects coming under KIIFB should be of global standards.
