Young civil servant dies after fall from high-rise in Kochi Vishnu, who had entered the Central Excise service in 2012, had passed the Civil Services preliminary twice, and the main once.

Kochi: A central excise inspector died after falling from the 11th floor of a flat at Kaloor here as he was trying to unfasten a Christmas star hung outside the apartment.

Vishnu S Menon, 30, met with the tragic end in the wee hours of Monday.

Residents of the nearby apartment called the security guard on the premises hearing a loud noise, and located the body. The police said he was declared dead on arrival at the General Hospital.

Vishnu, son of P G Shanmughan and K N Sreedevi of Udayanapuram, Vaikom, was set to marry on July 1. He had been to Udayanapuram on Sunday and returned to his flat at night. The family said he had been staying at the flat because as was working in the city.

Vishnu, who had entered the Central Excise service in 2012, had passed the Civil Services preliminary twice, and the main once.

His father is retired from the Federal Bank and his mother still works with the bank.

The Ernakulam North police carried out an inquest and the body was cremated.
