Kottarakkara: The functioning of the four village offices which comes under the Kottarakara taluk have been affected for months as there are no village officers here. Offices at Vettikavala, Kottukal and Pavithreswaram do not have village officers for the last six months, while the officers at Chakkuvarakal have not returned from their training. Hundreds of people throng at these village offices daily for various official affairs including matters related to school admission. There are at least 20,000 – 25,000 people residing in each village.
There are grievances that issuing of important certificates like caste and income certificates has been jeopardized due to the unavailability of officers at the village offices. It is reported that the present crisis arouse as new appointments are not made in lieu of the retired village officers. Meanwhile temporary arrangements are made by transferring the officers from the nearby villages. The people in the localities say that adjustments like this have to be continued until fresh appointments are made.
Kottarakkara village office to get smart
The village office at Kottarakkara would soon get a face lift. P Ayesha Potty MLA said that the project, with a budget of Rs 44 lakhs, to renovate the village office has been approved. The functioning of the office would be shifted to a part of the existing building to carry out the renovation works. While the Kottarakkara village office building would be renovated and strengthened, the officials at the nearby Mailam village office have to jump over puddles to reach the building.
