Poovar people brush up English grammar as Malayalam is Greek to this cop Navaneeth Sharma IPS has taken charge as station officer of Poovar as part as his training.

Thiruvananthapuram: People contacting the Poovar police station in the district are now busy learning English. Not only local politicians, activists and other complainants, but the policemen who spoke only Malayalam so far are also brushing up their English grammar with the help of their children's text books.

All thanks to Navaneeth Sharma, an IPS officer who has taken charge as station officer as part as his training. Sharma uses the station sub inspector’s phone as he has the charge of Poovar station house officer.

Born and brought up in north India, Sharma is totally clueless regarding Malayalam and communicates with everyone in English.

Many people who called the sub inspector’s number to make complaints initially cut the phone hearing the response in English. When the same reply was received during repeated calls, they set out to make enquiries about the officer at the station.

Meanwhile, circle inspector S Y Suresh and sub inspector Sujith are doing their best to bridge the communication gap. Sharma will be in Poovar for four months.
