Megastar Mohanlal is quite known for the warmth he religiously preserves for his friends and co-stars on and off the screen. His fondness for certain individuals is also famous. One such example was his hearty connect with late actress Sukumari.
Mohanlal's special care and affection for Sukumari Amma is well known in the inner film circle. So, when an opportunity came in the form of a song he made use of it ravishingly. The song is "Chinnamma adi kunjipennama..." in the film Oppam directed by Priyadarshan.
Recalling the situation in which the song was born, music director Jim of 4 Musics, the group which composed the songs in the film, says Priyadarshan suggested that the song should begin with a name. "That is how the word 'Chinnamma' came in the first line of the song and 'Kukkumma' in the second line.
"It was Mohanlal who insisted to keep the word 'Kukkumma,' in the song because he used to call actress Sukumari, 'Kukkumma'. In fact all those close to Sukumari used to call her in that name,” says Jim.
Mohanlal's cordial aura, his concern for the aged and the whole array of emotions are wholly captured in the song. The rhythm, milieu and the camera work complemented the whole mood of the song, which was penned by Dr. Madhu Vasudevan.
M.G. Sreekumar, back in the limelight after a brief hiatus, did justice to the beautiful song in which 4 Musics successfully fused melody with a blend of folk and the classical styles. It was indeed an enchanting tribute to one of the most versatile actors in the Malayalam film industry.
