Director Midhun Manuel comes up with 'Kottayam Kunjachan 2' Mammootty thanked everyone for the tremendous response to the announcement of 'Kottayam Kunjachan 2'.

Kochi: After the successful sequel of the Aadu franchise, director-scriptwriter Midhun Manuel Thomas is planning a second version of the blockbuster film Kottayam Kunjachan starring megastar Mammootty.

The film was announced at an event celebrating 100 days of Aadu 2. The announcement was held in a surprise move in which the megastar was brought to the centre of the stage in pitch dark and then the name was announced amid sudden flash of lights and raining confetti.

Reacting to the dramatic announcement, Mammootty said that he had never expected such a surprise. "I was scared a bit when I was made to stand in the dark for a while. Anyway, it was a nice event," he said. He also thanked everyone for the tremendous response to the announcement of Kottayam Kunjachan 2.

Kottayam Kunjachan, released in 1990, was an action comedy directed by T.S. Suresh Babu. Loosely based on a story by Muttathu Varkey, the film was scripted by Dennis Joseph.

Apart from Mammootty, Ranjini, Innocent, KPAC Lalitha, Sukumaran, Prathapachandran, Babu Antony and KB Ganesh Kumar essayed prominent roles in the hit film.

While the original film was produced by M Mani, the sequel, which will also feature Mammootty in the lead, is being bankrolled by producer-actor Vijay Babu.
