Yesteryear star Charmila keen on another comeback amid financial distress

Actor Charmila has wowed the Malayali audience with her endearing performances in the superhit movies like Kabooliwala and Uncle Bun. The actress has now revealed that she has decided to make another comeback into Malayalam and Tamil movies as she has to overcome her financial difficulties.

The charming actress tied the knot and quit movies when she was a popular artist in the South Indian movie industry. She had essayed significant roles in a handful of blockbusters in various languages.

However, Charmila soon found her name in the gossip columns when she ended her marriage with her then husband Rajesh. The actress who made a comeback into the movies had earlier told that financial crises had prompted her to return to the silver screen. Now Charmila is back in the news as she opened up again about her financial distress.

"I have acted in almost 65 films in both Malayalam and Tamil, and played the female lead in about 50 movies as well. I earned a lot of money, but didn't save it wisely. So now I am really struggling to meet the ends," said Charmila in an interview.

Charmila admitted that she splurged all the money that she earned from the movies to have a lavish life with her husband. However she added that, after her divorce she found it extremely difficult to meet her expenses.

"I have a son and it is Tamil actor Vishal who takes care of his education expenses. Nadigar Sangam, the Tamil actors association, too helps me financially to some extent. My married life with Rajesh was nothing short of a celebration. But it was me who suffered losses after we parted ways. I had to sell my flat near Saligramam. Currently I am staying at a leased apartment at Virugambakkam in Chennai," Charmila revealed.

Speaking on her financial commitments, Charmila said that she had hired a domestic help for Rs 10,000, monthly pay, to take care of her mother who is bedridden.

Often, when I return after a shoot, people who had loaned me money would be waiting at my house to get back their money, she added.
