Mohanlal's cameo in 'Kochunni' calls for acrobatic skills

Superstar Mohanlal's unique look as the historical character Ithikkara Pakki in the forthcoming period movie Kayamkulam Kochunni starring Nivin Pauly in the title role has become a rage on the Internet. Film-maker Rosshan Andrrews shared a picture of the screen icon as Ithikkara Pakki recently. The image shows Mohanlal in an acrobatic position with his leg resting on a high tree stump. The picture became a hit on the social media within minutes.

Even celebrities too are bowled over by the superstar's make over as Ithikkara Pakki. Sharing the picture of Mohanlal on his Facebook page, young star Unni Mukundan wrote, "Flexibility level: EXTREME. Simply Lalettan things. #thisman #unbeatable #prideof kerala #legend." When Mohanlal posted the picture on his social media page, actors like Jude Anthany, Joju George, Nandan Unni, Arun Vaiga, Sandeep Senan and Arun Gopy posted appreciating comments below it.

Meanwhile, Rosshan Andrrews spoke to Onmanorama about the significance of the character Ithikkara Pakki in the movie. He said, "Ithikkara Pakki has incredible physical flexibility. He grew up by running and jumping between trees. Pakki would even climb upon huge trees. He has the acrobatic skills and flexibility to do all these stunts. Pakki means a butterfly. So, Pakki is a thief who moves swiftly just like a butterfly that flutters quickly between the trees."

Though a cameo appearance, Mohanlal's cameo plays a significant role in the film's narrative. Screen-writing duo Bobby and Sanjay who penned many superhits together have written the script of Kayamkulam Kochunni. The movie portrays the eventful life of Kayamkulam Kochunni, a good-natured bandit believed to have lived in Kerala in the 19th century.

Mohanlal has already completed the filming of his portions as Ithikkara Pakki.

The movie, bankrolled by Sri Gokulam Movies, is made on a whopping budget of Rs 45 crore. Noted cinematographer Binod Pradhan, who cranked the camera for superhit Bollywood movies like 2 States, Rang De Basanti and Bhaag Milkha Bhaag is wielding the camera. Sreekar Prasad is the editor of the movie. The Fire Fly, which did the production coordination of Baahubali, takes up this task for this movie as well.

Acclaimed art director Sunil Babu who worked in blockbuster movies like Thuppakki, MS Dhoni: The Untold Story, Special 26, Urumi, Pazhassi Raja and Ghajini is the production designer.

PM Satheesh (Kaminey, Baahubali, Talaash, Pulimurugan) is the sound designer.

The movie will have some thrilling action sequences choreographed by action director Allan Amin (Dhoom 2, Action Hero Biju, Mumbai Police), assisted by a group of professional stuntmen from South Africa. Hitmaker Gopi Sundar composes the music.
