A movie that revolves around the cultural landscape of Thrissur, Georgettan’s Pooram tells the tale of George Vadakkan (Dileep), his gang and a playground called 'Mathai Parambu.'
Mathai Parambu, the main setting of the movie, is introduced to us at the outset itself. A piece of land donated by a former kabaddi player of the locality, Mathai Parambu now has been reduced to a den for gangs of men who while away time by boozing and sleeping.
George Vadakkan (Dileep), Vava (Vinay Forrt), Pallan (Sharfudheen) and Chullan (Thiru Actlab) among others have made the ground their second home. However, George's father, Pastor Mathew Vadakkan (Renji Panicker), wants his son to carry forward the legacy of priesthood. Although the Pastor made sure that his son was brought up as a God-fearing, pious teen, George's 'mischievous' self is awakened by his friends.
The first half of the movie is a random visit to the lives of George Vadakkan and his cronies. They are seen languishing in Thrissur without any job or commitment. Halfway through, Merlin (Rejisha Vijayan) makes an entry and it’s love at first sight for George. Even though he learns that she is an aspiring nun, the hopeful hero is never disappointed. The narrative brings in a twist with the introduction of Peter (Chemban Vinod), who claims to own Mathai Parambu.
The second half deals with George's travails to claim back Mathhai Parambu. A series of clashes follow and Peter backs out leaving the piece of land to George. But wait. Is that all? No, you need to find out why Peter did this. The second half of the movie is better as it is here you get to witness some kabaddi, which is also a deciding factor in the fate of Mathai Parambu.
T.G. Ravi as Jospehettan is the soul of the place. And he is tasked to keep emotions alive for the rest of the movie. Mathai Parambu is a reminder of places that are favorite to all, but owned by none like Shakthan Thamburan ground in Thrissur, Mananchira in Kozhikode, Putharikandam Maidanam in Thiruvananthapuram and Durbar Hall ground in Kochi. The movie tries to re-kindle the nostalgia of such places in you.
Georgettan's Pooram is nothing different from what is expected of a typical Dileep flick. The comic scenes fail to evoke laughter and sometimes end up as double-meaning cliches with vulgar innuendos. Dileep is seen failing in his attempt to crack jokes in typical Thrissur slang. Rajisha has no solid role in the whole plot, other than making mere appearances in aesthetic backdrops. Apart from being George's lady love, her sole mission seems to be delivering a few power-packed dialogues towards the climax. Sharafudheen and Hareesh Perumana have succeeded in offering some good comic scenes.
Gopi Sunder's background score jells well with the theme. Keep away your common sense and logic and there is a yet another flick only for hardcore Dileep fans this vacation. Georgettan's Pooram is a one-time watch.
