Oru Cinemakaran: audience review Oru cinemakaran has all elements of a true entertainer

Oru Cinemakkaran is indeed a catchy title that rolls off the tongue. But with a title like that, what we expect is something along the lines of Udayananu Tharam or Kattapanayile Rithwik Roshan. It’s here that director Leo Thaddeus takes us by surprise.

What Thadedus dishes up onscreen is not another run-of-the-mill movie on the trials and tribulations of an aspiring actor or filmmaker. There’s much more to it than the fancy title.

A brilliant screenplay with no missing or extra shot, every single thread in this movie leads to the conclusion in one way or the other, making it a wholesome and compact artwork.

Vineeth Sreenivasan plays the lead character called Alby, who married his lady love Serah (Rejisha Vijayan) against the will of both their families. The couple leads a life filled with romance in a residential complex in Kochi. Alby’s passion for film making and relentless hard work have yielded him nothing, but financial liabilities and stress. Adding to it, Alby gets involved in a thoughtless act to save Serah's favorite ornament pawned in a bank. The movie shapes up around this incident.

Oru Cinemakaran is very well a crime movie. The post-intermission part progresses along with a police investigation, a Drishyam-like cover up plan and WHAM! Thaddeus delivers a sting that you never saw coming – a carefully crafted twist ending.

The movie Oru Cinemakkaran stands apart for its realistic characterization. Rajisha Vijayan as Serah is indeed a cheerful presence on screen, lighting up the mood with her subtle, yet organic expressions. Anusree as the face of vengeance is flawless.

As Alby's priest-father, Ranji Panicker adds a dab of magic to his otherwise-ordinary role. Joy Mathew, Vijay Babu, Lal, Sasi Kalinga, Jaffer Idukki and Santhosh Pandit do cameo appearances.

Sreenivasan Jr. is at his fabulous best and delivers a masterly act. The movie also boasts of some beautiful romantic song sequences and music that gels well with the plot.

All in all, Oru Cinemakaran is a wholesome package of entertainment tagged to reality.
