Role Models: audience review Fahadh Faasil and Namitha Pramod in 'Role Models'

Role Models, written and directed by Raffi, is an out-and-out entertainer, packed with hilarious humor, mesmerizing music and youthful vigor. Though there is nothing novel in the plot, there is some freshness in the treatment and the meandering course. The story begins with the catch line 'the greatest mystery in the world is the human life itself,' and unfolds gracefully through a maze of trivial and sublime elements. The plot slightly hints at the social relevance of conventional education system.

The story revolves around Goutham (Fahadh Faasil), whose life takes unexpected turns. Many of the comic sequences produce genuine laughter, but there are a few that fizzle out disastrously. Jyothis (Vinayakan), Rexy (Sharafudheen) and Subahan (Vinay Forrt) were Goutham's close friends in the engineering college. His father (Renji Panicker) was a professor in the same college. Their fun and frolic in the college comes to an abrupt end with a gruesome incident. The events that follow lead to a break in their bond.

Years later, we get to see a whole-new Goutham whose character and attitudehave mysteriously changed. This agonizes his parents further. Goutham's college buddies reach out to him in the time of crisis when his over-concerned parents appeal. There is a well-crafted storyline in the narrative but quite often, the plot loses its vitality in the bid to inject funny interludes, wherever possible. The romance, suspense and actions have been dexterously weaved together and makesit a gripping watch, nevertheless. The narrative runs full throttle after Goutham and his cronies land in Goa in pursuit of our hero’s former lady love Shreya (Namitha Promod).

Almost all the actors have portrayed their character to perfection. Fahadh as Goutham once again displays a splendid performance, though his charactervaguely reminds us of Harikrishnan in North 24 Katham or Shivadas ofBangalore Days. Vinayakan is at his usual best. However, it is Sharafudheen who steals the show with his perfect timing and balanced acting. Ranji Panicker, Srinda, Raffi, Dileesh Pothan all dish out stupendous performances.

'Role Models' : Is Fahadh Faasil the odd man out?

The drama that unwinds in Goa adds to the thrill of the plot and it's a different ball game there. The colorful life on the beaches, adventurous sports and some eventful digressions keep the audience jaw dropped towards the end. However, Raffi chooses to give an untidy conclusion to the main course of the plot and maintains a comical vein even in the climax.

With enchanting locales that shift between Kerala and Goa, and mesmerizing songs, Role Models is meant to delight viewers. The camera is handled by Shyam Dutt. Meanwhile, Gopi Sundar has tuned the lyrics penned by B.K. Harinarayanan.
