When Prithviraj-starrer Puthiye Mukham hit the screens, the song "Picha vecha naal" was one of the top trending songs of 2009. The song even fetched many awards for its singer Shankar Mahadevan and composer Deepak Dev.

Interestingly, Dev's wife, Smitha , who was at the Super 4 music reality show being telecast on Mazhavil Manorama, shared an anecdote related to the song.

“When Deepak composed this song, he called me and hummed its tune. Hearing it plainly, I asked him what kind of song was that. Later, when Shankarji (Shankar Mahadevan) sang it, I liked it and the song was a hit. Then, Deepak came to me and told whenever I compose a song just say that you don't like and it will be a hit”, said Smitha Dev.

When asked him how the duo met and how both of them fell for each other, she said, “I met Deepak at a recording studio in Kochi. I had accompanied my mother, Renuka Girijan, a singer, for a recording. Deepak was working there as a keyboard player. We spoke to each other, but it was not love at first sight. We began speaking on the phone and we became friends. Later, it developed into a love affair.”

Nevertheless, the couple tied the knot on May 26, 2002.
