New Delhi: The US edged Ghana 1-0 in a Group A game of the FIFA U-17 World Cup at the Jawaharlal Nehru Stadium here on Monday.

Ayo Akinola scored the winner in the 75th minute. He latched on to a through ball, shrugged off two defenders and shot home.

The US have six points from two games. Ghana have three points from two matches and they next meet hosts India.

Mali thrashed Turkey 3-0 in a Group B game at Navi Mumbai to keep their pre-quarterfinal hopes alive.

Djemoussa Traore netted for the Africans in the 38th minute. Lassana Ndiaye doubled their lead in the 68th and Fode Konate completed the tally with four minutes to go.

The win helped Mali open their account. They have three points from two games while Turkey have only one point from two matches.
