Kochi: The quarterfinalists of the FIFA U-17 World Cup have been spotted. At the end of 44 games, there are only eight teams left in the competition.

The quarterfinal action begins with Mali taking on another African team Ghana in Guwahati on Saturday.

The US, who demolished Paraguay 5-0 in their round of 16 clash, meet England for a place in the semifinals in Goa on the same day.

European champions Spain will lock horns with Asian challengers Iran in another quarterfinal in Kochi on Sunday. The match, scheduled for a 5 pm start, will also be the last game to be played at the Jawaharlal Nehru Stadium in Kochi in this edition.

Spain, who lost to Brazil in their Group D opener, edged out a strong French side 2-1 in the pre-quarterfinals. Iran, who shocked Germany 4-0 in the group stage, can give any side a run for its money and the last-eight duel between the two attacking teams promises to be a close affair.

Brazil take on Germany in the most anticipated quarterfinal clash on Sunday. The marquee game will be held in Kolkata. Germany have never won the U-17 World Cup title while three-time champions Brazil are aiming to regain the crown after a gap of 14 years.

Quarterfinals schedule: Mali vs Ghana, Guwahati, Saturday, Oct 21, 5 pm; USA vs England, Goa, Saturday, Oct 21, 8 pm; Spain vs Iran, Kochi, Sunday, Oct 22, 5 pm; Germany vs Brazil, Kolkata, Sunday, Oct 22, 8 pm.
