Talk with govt fails, Kerala traders to down shutters on Tuesday Representational image

Alappuzha: A section of traders in Kerala has decided to go ahead with the proposed strike on Tuesday after talks held with finance minister T.M. Thomas Isaac failed to yield any positive result.

The Vyapari Vyavasayi Ekopana Samithi on Sunday requested the minister to halt the implementation of the newly launched Goods and Services Tax (GST) for three months. However, the minister sought more time to respond to the request. With this, T. Nasirudheen, the president of the traders' body, said they would not call off the strike scheduled for Tuesday.

The minister is likely to talk to the traders again after consulting officials.

Meanwhile, the government has decided to constitute complaint redressal cells in every district to find a solution to the issues being faced by traders after the implementation of GST.

Confusion has been prevailing in several sectors after the implementation of GST on July 1.
