IFFK: Six held for disrespecting national anthem IFFK: Six held for disrespecting national anthem. Screen grab

Thiruvananthapuram: Six people were held by the police for allegedly disrespecting National Anthem at the IFFK screenings. They were released later after registering their arrests. However, five more persons were arrested later on Monday by the police on the same charges from the IFFK venue.

The arrest follows a complaint filed by Yuva Morcha demanding action against those who have shown disrespect to the anthem ahead of the screenings.

The arrested include a woman, police sources said.

The identities of the arrested have not been disclosed by the police yet. They have been detained from Nishangandhi auditorium by the Museum police, it is reliably learnt.

R.S Rajeev, the general secretary of the Yuva Morcha, the youth wing of the BJP, had lodged a complaint with the state police chief regarding this earlier in the day.

A.K.Balan, culture minister of Kerala, had said that the National Anthem would be played in IFFK, but people are free to sit while it is being played.

The minister said this after the Supreme Court directive that National Anthem should be played ahead of all film screenings.
