Thiruvananthapuram: A plate of fish could do more damage to our security forces than Naxals in their jungle hideouts.

As many as 400 CRPF jawans posted at the Pallipuram unit near the Kerala capital were taken ill reportedly due to food poisoning on Saturday.

They were admitted to various hospitals in the city after they complained of upset stomach and vomiting. They had consumed fish for dinner. About 110 jawans are under observation at the Medical College Hospital in Thiruvananthapuram. Health minister K K Shylaja visited them at the hospital.

Earlier this year, some jawans from the BSF and the CRPF posted videos online, complaining of poor food and service condition.

The central government had agreed to address these issues, but the latest incident is proof that more needs to be done to keep our security forces in good health, which is imperative for our nation's safety.
