Police chief seeks fresh probe in Fazal murder case as fingers point to RSS Fazal

Mystery surrounding the murder of Muhammad Fazal thickened as the Kerala police chief sought a fresh probe in light of an RSS worker’s confession that his organization was involved in the murder of the NDF activist at Thalassery in 2006.

Director general of police Lokanath Behera has written to the director of the Central Bureau of Investigation, which has taken over the investigation in the sensational case which had put several CPM leaders in the dock.

The state police have to wait for the CBI to take action based on the revelations because the central agency has submitted the chargesheet in the case.

Behera wrote to the CBI director based on a confidential report submitted by the Superintendent of Police in Kannur. Manorama News is in possession of a copy of the report submitted by Kori Sanjay Kumar Gurudin, who led the police in Kannur district until early this year.

The twist in the case came in November last year when the police arrested RSS worker Subeesh in connection with the murder of CPM worker Paduvilayi Mohanan at Koothuparamba. The Mahe resident spilled the beans about his organization’s role in two more murders, that of Fazal at Thalassery and Pavithran at Kannavam in 2009.

Kori wrote to the police chief that the two cases needed to be reinvestigated in light of Subeesh’s confession.

The police have also received an audio clip of a telephone conversation between Subeesh and other RSS workers soon after Fazal was killed. Kori has also attached this clip and other evidence in his letter to Behera.

The CBI officers had visited Kannur several times after Subeesh’s confession but they had not yet launched a reinvestigation, prompting Fazal’s brother Abdul Sathar to approach the CBI court in Ernakulam. The court has served a notice on the investigating officers.

The CPM leaders accused of getting Fazal killed have not sought legal recourse in the case.
