Thiruvananthapuram: The festival season has pushed up vegetable prices in Kerala. With Vishu falling on Friday and Easter following on Sunday, prices are skyrocketing. Beans and pea have shot up to Rs. 100 a kilo. Shallot, snake gourd and other items went up by almost double in the past one month.
The price of pea climbed from Rs.50 to Rs.100. Beans, which was selling at Rs. 70, has crossed the three-digit mark.
Bitter gourd now sells at Rs. 60. A kg of carrot costs Rs. 80. Also selling at higher prices are beetroot, ash gourd, snake gourd, green chilli and drumstick.
There is a slight dip in the prices of onion and tomato. Yellow cucumber has also not shot up. The recent truck strike and the drought in the state are the main causes of the price rise.
