Kottayam: The stocky man in white and white walked confidently into the police camp, a 12 bore shotgun in one hand and a Czech pistol in the other. He wanted to give the other gunslingers a lesson they won’t forget. The man was none other than P.C. George, the legislator from Poonjar.
Before you jump the gun, George and his firearms were here on invitation. The police top brass in Kottayam roped in the MLA to flare up a study class for licensed arms holders in the district. And George was bang on target.
He took the center stage as soon as he walked into the venue. “I never let go of my gun,” he declared before he pulled the trigger on a lively class on how to shoot. Even seasoned shooters were all ears as the MLA took them through minute details. He was not shooting from the hip.
George said he always carried a gun but never had to fire it up. Like every respectable arms holder, George had reserved violence for self-defense.
Ignorance about guns often leads to accidents, George pointed out. Rage was another enemy to be kept in check, he added. “Think twice before you act on rage. It may not be easy to get out of the situation,” he said.
About 1,500 gun lovers attended the study class held in the armed reserve camp.
