D Cinemaas D Cinemaas at Chalakudy

Kochi: The Kerala High Court on Wednesday canceled the Chalakudy municipality's decision to shut down D-Cinemaas, the theater complex owned by embattled Malayalam actor Dileep.

The court issued an order, making it clear that the civic body did not have the right to cancel the license for the theater. The order said the theater could resume functioning.

The court held that the municipality ordered the closure of the cinema without substantial reasons. It said the theater had not violated any rule regarding license.

Chalakudy municipality issued the closure order Thursday after it was found that the theater was using a high-power motor without official permission.

Dileep's brother Anoop moved the court challenging the order. Dileep was arrested on July 10 for plotting the abduction and assault on a young Malayalam actress in Kochi on February 17. Soon after his arrest, there were allegations that he had encroached upon government land to build D-Cinemaas.
