Aluva: A local citizen has lodged a complaint with the director general of police (DGP), prisons, alleging that actor Dileep, who is under remand in the actress assault case, is getting undue privileges in the Aluva sub-jail. T.J. Girish from Aluva, the actor's home town, alleges in his complaint that Dileep spends time at the jail superintendent's air-conditioned room from breakfast time to late in the night.

Girish points out that a board outside the jail says visitors are not allowed on holidays, but there had been a flood of visitors in recent holidays to meet Dileep. He alleges that many of these visitors are directly linked to the case and are known to have expressed open support to the actor. The producers of a film, at the location of which Dileep and main accused Pulsar Suni were allegedly together, were also allowed to meet the actor. A controversy was sparked by the visit of a double murder-accused on the holiday that fell very soon after Dileep was locked up.

Girish seeks a probe on how the actor, who is accused of hatching a plot to kidnap and molest the actress, could get such privileges in jail. He also demands action against the officers who are guilty of providing such favors.

Visitors started arriving at the jail from last Saturday, after the court granted temporary permission to Dileep for attending his father's death anniversary rites at his house on Wednesday. K.B. Ganesh Kumar, MLA and ex-minister, script writer Benny P. Nayaranbalam, producers Antony Perumbavoor and Arun Ghosh and Bijoy Chandran were among those who met Dileep at the jail on Tuesday.

Actor Jayaram visited him with traditional Onakkodi on Monday. Director-writer Renjith, producer Alvin Antony, actors Nadhirshah, Suresh Krishna, Harisree Asokan, Kalabhavan Shajon and Kalabhavan George also visited him in recent days as Dileep spent Onam in jail.

Prison superintendent P.P. Baburaj has rejected the allegations raised by the petitioner. He says there was nothing wrong in allowing more visitors to meet Dileep and permitting Jayaram to gift him an Onakkodi. Normally not more than one or two people are not allowed to visit prisoners on a single day. But Dileep's case is an exception, and the importance of those seeking to visit him had to be considered. Jail rules do not mandate that visitors should be disallowed on holidays. The board has been set up to avoid rush of visitors. It is not essential that it should be strictly enforced, he said.
