Kochi: The Kerala police team probing the actress attack case owes an answer to the public as to what progress did they make in the investigation during the 85 days when actor Dileep was jailed, noted lawyer and former Lok sabha MP Sebastian Paul has said here.

He said the public had the right to know what the police gained by putting the actor behind the bars. He was speaking at 'Nere Chovve', a chat show on Manorama News.

Terming the bail granted to Dileep as delivery of natural justice, the Left-leaning lawyer said he did not want to express much happiness over it.

Sebastian Paul had been slammed by many after he wrote an article, on a news website edited by him, questioning the denial of bail to Dileep.

Dileep was granted bail by the Kerala High Court on Tuesday, 85 days after his arrest on July 10.

The high court and the trial court in Angamaly had denied him bail twice each earlier.

Sebastian Paul said he had no issues with being called a 'devil's advocate' and identified as pro-accused, but questioned the campaign that he was against the victim.

Dileep is accused of plotting the February 17 abduction and assault of a prominent Malayalam actress.
