Thiruvananthapuram: Kerala police chief Lokanath Behera has ordered a probe into the allegations that the Popular Front of India (PFI) was receiving foreign funds to carry out religious conversions in the state.
The probe was ordered after a national television channel aired its spy-camera operation during which the outfit's leaders were heard saying that the PFI was receiving hawala money.
The DGP has reportedly asked the intelligence wing chief to collect information about the outfit. He said that legal action would be decided upon later. The police chief said they were taking the allegations seriously as the report mentioned Kerala.
Meanwhile, union minister Ravi Shankar Prasad has urged the state government to take action.
The sting, Prasad said, has caught the PFI founding-members saying that they received funding from abroad and had converted over 5,000 people to Islam.
The information and technology minister said the National Investigation Agency (NIA) should also investigate what the media report has highlighted.
