 Palakkad native Swapna James bags Karshakasree Award Swapna James won the prestigious award for the efficient use of land, natural resources and organic fertilizers .

Kottayam: Swapna James from Palakkad has won the Malayala Manorama 'Karshakasree Award' for 2018. The award, presented to the most outstanding farmer of the state, carries a cash award of Rs 3,00,000, a gold medallion and a citation. She won the prestigious award for the efficient use of land, natural resources and organic fertilizers .

Malayala Manorama managing editor Jacob Mathew announced the winner at a function in Kottayam on Tuesday. The award will be presented to Swapna from Sreekrishnapuram during the Karshakasree Karshika Mela to be held from February 1 to 11 at Newman College, Thodupuzha. As many as 95 people had sent in their applications for the contest. Out of which, 12 made it to the final round. Malayala Manorama editorial director Mathews Varghese and Karshakasree editor-in-charge Baby John were also present.
