Palakkad: The police in Salem say that Shefin Jahan, whose marriage with Kottayam native Hadiya kicked up a controversy, visited her at the Sivaraj Homeo Medical College in Salem on Thursday.
However, the college officials have denied the visit.
Shefin, who reached the college at 2 pm on Thursday, has signed in the security register at the college entrance, the police said. The security guards could not recognize him. He spent 40 minutes inside the college, and talked with Hadiya for sometime. Reports said Shefin also confirmed the visit.
The college authorities were not willing to confirm what the police said. The police are unlikely to initiate any action against Shefin for the visit as the Supreme Court has not specified whom Hadiya is allowed to meet. At the same time, the college has refused a plea from Hadiya for five days' leave, insisting it needs a court clearance.
Hadiya's conversion to Islam and marriage with Shefin led to a sensational controversy with her father alleging that she was radicalized. The Kerala High Court had annulled the couple's marriage while the Supreme Court ordered an NIA probe into the circumstances leading to the conversion and marriage.
Hadiya was allowed to continue with her studies in Salem by the apex court last month.
