Jeddah: A Keralite girl drowned in a swimming pool in a resort in the Saudi Arabian port city on Saturday. Fida, the daughter of Abdul Latheef Kalaranthiri and Jesli from Koduvally in Kozhikode, had gone to the resort on a weekend party along with her family and friends.
Fida was a class 10 student of the Al Mawarid International School in Jeddah.
The picnic was organized by the Koduvally unit of the Kerala Muslim Cultural Centre (KMCC), an association of expatriates from Kerala. The girl had got into the pool with her friends and drowned in the deepest part of the pool. She reportedly did not know how to swim.
Fida was rushed to a nearby private hospital and then a government hospital but she could not be saved.
Fida was the oldest daughter of Latheef and Jesli. She is survived by siblings Fayaz Muhammed, Faiha Fathima and Ayisha. Latheef is the managing director of a furniture company in Jeddah.
