Thiruvananthapuram: A pregnant woman went missing on Tuesday from the SAT Hospital in the Government Medical College here. Shamna, aged 21, was accompanied by her husband and parents when she went to the hospital. She is due to deliver on Wednesday.
The woman from Madavoor near Varkala was last seen by her husband Anshad when she went to a room near the labour room for a check-up. She never returned. In the evening, she called a relative and said she was safe.
A recap of Tuesday’s events
8 am: Shamna and relatives reach the gynaecology department in the SAT Hospital. Staff collect blood samples for examinations.
11:30 am: Doctors advise Shamna to get admitted for delivery. The woman goes to a check-up room for the final exam.
1 pm: After waiting for more than two hours beside the room, Shamna’s husband and parents make inquiries. Doctors and nurses say that they never met Shamna in the room. The relatives and hospital staff comb the hospital compound for the pregnant woman. Her phone is switched off. The relatives lodge a police complaint.
2 pm: Checking the surveillance footage, the police spot Shamna getting out of the hospital around noon.
5:15 pm: Anshad gets a call from Shamna’s phone but the caller is silent. The call gets cut.
5:30 pm: Shamna calls up a relative and says that she is safe. The police try to track the woman with her mobile tower location.
6:10 pm: Shamna’s phone was at Kumarapuram at noon, Ettumanoor in the evening and at Ernakulam North at 7:40 pm. The railway police check on the trains running northward. Someone spots a pregnant woman getting off a train at Ernakulam North.
The police comb all hospitals and lodges in Ernakulam, in vain.
