Thrissur: Even when Thrissur Pooram has entered its final hours, the authorities are yet to grant permission for the fireworks to be held on wee hours of Thursday as part of the annual festival.
Officials of revenue and explosives have to give the nod for the fireworks, which is the finishing gala of Thrissur Pooram.
With the delay, the Thiruvambadi and Paramekkavu Devaswoms have come out in protest. The fireworks should take place at 3 am on Thursday. The plan of the Devaswoms were to make the fireworks display more colourful using low explosives.

The Devasoms alleged that the authorities are purposefully delaying the permission. But district collector denied the allegation and said that the permission for the fireworks display will be granted. He said there was nothing unusual in the delay for granting the permission.
Traditional fireworks denied permission
When the Thiruvambadi Goddess reaches Naikkanal, crackers are burst as per the tradition. It was through this that the arrival of the goddess was announced. Authorities mandated special permission for this when such kind of fireworks are used even in large conventions. With the denial, this time Thrissur Pooram has to be conducted without it.
Notice served for accident during sample fireworks
Revenue officials served notice to Paramekkavu Devaswom after six people got injured during the sample fireworks. Revenue officials reached the house of secretary of Paramekkavu Devaswom to issue the notice. The secretary alleged that the summons notice served on Pooram day was proof of the official 'arrogance'.
