Alappuzha: District collector T V Anupama has issued a notice for demolishing the approach road and the parking area built for the Lake Palace resort owned by former minister Thomas Chandy after illegally reclaiming the paddy field.

It has been found that the paddy field belonging to Leelamma Esaw, the sister of Thomas Chandy, had been filled to construct the parking area and approach road. A portion of the paddy field in the possession of one Subrahmanian was also reclaimed violating rules to lay the Valiyakulam-Zero Jetty road.

The collector’s order seeks restoration of the area under the Kerala Conservation of Paddy Field and Wetland Act. The order was handed over to Water World Tourism Company and the owner of the land.

Meanwhile, authorities at Lake Palace resort said that the collector had passed the order even as the case was under the consideration of the court. They said that they will tackle the issue legally.

Chandy, who faced encroachment allegations, had resigned as state transport minister from the CPM-led LDF government headed by Pinarayi Vijayan in November 2017.
