Nipah test result of TVM student negative

Thiruvananthapuram: The Nipah test results of a student who sought treatment here returned negative on Wednesday. The preliminary test results from Institute Of Advanced Virology, Thonnakkal confirmed that the student has not contracted Nipah virus.

The Thiruvananthapuram Dental College student who sought treatment with symptoms of Nipah virus infection has been put under observation at Thiruvananthapuram Medical College Hospital.

He had approached the hospital on Tuesday morning with high fever.

The student said that he suspected that he had eaten a fruit bitten by a bat. The body fluids have been sent to Pune for detailed examination.

Four Nipah cases have been reported in Kerala's Kozhikode so far.
