Shahjahanpur: A man was booked for allegedly chopping his wife's nose due to non-payment of dowry in Lakhnaur village of Hardoi district, police said Tuesday.

A case was registered against five persons including the husband.

Ranjit chopped off his wife's nose in a fit of rage when his in-laws failed to deliver a motorcycle and a TV in dowry.

The couple was married for three years.

"Ranjit who was married to the victim, for almost three years, had been demanding a television and motorcycle from the woman's family. He often used to beat her," SP (City) Dinesh Tripathi said.

"The woman then came back to her native place, after which police registered a case against five persons including her husband," he said, adding that an investigation is on.
