Kerala BJP chief Kummanam Rajasekharan appointed Mizoram governor Kummanam Rajasekharan

New Delhi: President Ram Nath Kovind on Friday appointed Kerala BJP chief Kummanam Rajasekharan as the governor of Mizoram, reported Manorama News. He will be replacing Lt. General (Retd.) Nirbhay Sharma, who is completing his tenure on May 28, 2018.

Along with Kummanam, BJP leader Ganeshi Lal was also appointed as governor of Odhisa.

However, Kummanam refused to comment about the development. "I heard about this from media. I am yet to receive the order," Kummanam told reporters.

The 65-year-old Kummanam rose through the ranks of right-wing outfits such as Hindu Aikya Vedi, Vishwa Hindu Parishad and RSS, acquiring the face of BJP's Kerala wing. He has been the state president from 18 December 2015.

Kummanam has played a major role in anti-airport agitation in Aranmula. A native of Kottayam, he came into contact with the RSS during his student days. He quit his regular job and became a fulltime RSS pracharak.

According to a Rashtrapati Bhavan communique, Prof. Ganeshi Lal will take over as the new governor of Odhisa, a post which had fallen vacant in March this year after veteran Naga leader S C Jamir completed his tenure.

Bihar governor Satya Pal Malik had been given additional charge of Odhisa.

Lal is a former Haryana BJP chief.
