Houston: In a blood-chilling development in the mysterious disappearance of 3-year-old Sherin Mathews in Dallas, the police suspect that the toddler could have been killed.
The investigating agencies had found that one of the three cars at the Mathews' residence had gone out of the premises on the same night when little Sherin reportedly went missing. With new evidence pointing that the child was killed and body taken out in a car and dumped at some unknown location, her foster father, Wesley Mathews from Ernakulam in Kerala, could be named as an accused in the case. Wesley could also be arrested soon, it was learned. He was reportedly not cooperating with the probe.
Sherin, who has developmental issues and limited verbal communication skills, had gone missing on Saturday after her foster father reportedly sent her outside around 3 am as punishment for not drinking milk. She was last seen outside her family's backyard in Richardson, Dallas, at 3.15 am Saturday.
Mathews was arrested on Saturday on the charge of abandoning or endangering a child. He was released from custody on Sunday after posting $2,50,000 bond.
The Mathews' reportedly adopted the girl two years ago from an orphanage in India. She was malnourished and physically underdeveloped and does not have the same language skills a typical 3-year-old would in the US.
Child not adopted from Kochi
Contrary to the earlier reports, it has emerged that the child was not adopted from an orphanage in Kochi. The social justice department in the state has said that the child could have been adopted from some other state in India.
