The incident happened during an event at the Sabari Ashram, Akathethara
The deceased, Sreekandan (75), a native of Thalavady, Upper Kuttanad, set one of the rooms in his house ablaze using petrol around 5 am.
The deceased was admitted to the cardiology ICU of a private hospital.
No casualty has been reported so far.
