Woman jumps into 40-ft well to save son Mini, from Muvattupuzha, jumped into a well in front of her house at Kalamboor to save her eight-year-old son.

Muvattupuzha: Mini Biju was just another loving mother when she kissed her son’s forehead at a hospital in Moovattupuzha. Few days ago, however, she did the unthinkable.

She jumped into a well in front of her house at Kalamboor to save her eight-year-old son. She held the boy aloft in the neck-deep water for an hour until help arrived.

The boy, Allen, was with his father and grandfather when he slipped into the 40-foot well at Kunnakkattumala Colony at Sidhanpadi on Monday. Mini rushed out of the house and jumped into the well. She fished out the boy who was sinking into the water. She held him above the water even as she herself struggled to breathe. Her limbs were stretched beyond limits.

The neighbours managed to winch down a ladder into the well. The boy was tied on to the ladder with a cloth and pulled out. Mini stayed in the well some more time until the firemen arrived.

The mother and the child have been admitted to Muvattupuzha Nirmala Medical Centre with injuries. Both of them are being observed for trauma-related symptoms.
