Melukavu accident

Melukavu: Two students died when the autorickshaw they were travelling in lost control and rammed into a wall. Five others who were in the vehicle suffered serious injuries. The seven students were on a joyride after their exams got over. 

The deceased were identified as Poomala Mangalamudakkal Ravi's son Alan (18) and Kolapra Kudayathoor Keelath Sabu's son Anand (17). 

The injured include auto driver Muttam Kunnunkal Harish (18), Melukavumattam Vattamattathil Sebin Mathew (18), Muttam Pullollil Jose P Binoy (17), Koottar Mullankuzhiyil M K Rahul (17) and Vandanmedu Pallithazhath Ranjil P Chandran (17).

The accident took place at Deepti junction near the Melukavu village panchayat office at 12.30 on Tuesday. Expect Ranjil, Alan and Rahul, all others were plus two students at Thodupuzha Muttom IHRD's higher secondary school.

They got together after the exam and were on their way to Bharananganam when the accident took place.

The police said that the auto lost control and overturned after it drove down a slope from Kanjiram Kavala. Anand died on the spot. Alan could not be saved though he was taken to a private hospital in Erattupetta.

Except Harish, all others, who suffered injuries on their heads, are in a serious condition. Ranjil was shifted to Kottayam Medical College Hospital. The auto was fully damaged in the accident.

Alan was the only son of Arakkulam Kuruthikulath Ravi, who is an auto driver, and Lanitha, who is a temporary worker in the corporation.  

Auto driver Sabu along with wife Manju and Anand had started living in Madakkathanam only a month ago. Sabu is confined to bed after he met with an accident. Anand and family came to Madakkathanam and were staying in a rented accommodation after Sabu's accident. Anand has a brother, Aravind.
