Malayali netizens were aghast as the news of the arrest of five young Malayalam actors appeared on their social media walls on Monday when they were immersed in Onam revelry.
For a moment, Onam took a back seat and netizens sat up and took notice of the latest news of the police getting involved in the tinsel town.
Even more startling was the fact that the list of those arrested included a young director and several faces which, by now, were household names in Malayalam cinema.
The report also showed that the investigation was on and more arrests will happen soon. As Malayalis sat stunned wondering whether Onam has been dampened by bad news around their vibrant crop of young actors, came the relief. The report that swept across Internet circles was the brainchild of some fresh PR innovation that chose to make a title announcement of a movie in an off-the-beaten-track mode.
The movie, Mandakini, written and directed by journalist and writer Jenith Kachapilly, has become a talk of the social town already.
Siju Wilson, Krishna Shankar, Shabarish, Althaf and Shiyaz appear in lead roles. The movie is being produced by Rajesh Augustine under the banner of Ark Media.
