Kochi: Actor-turned-director Dhyan Sreenivasan is all set to begin the shooting for Love Action Drama, his directorial debut. The movie, which is a comeback film for one of the pioneer production houses of Malayalam cinema – the Merryland Studio, has roped in Nivin Pauly and Nayantara to play the lead roles in the movie.
Visakh Subramaniam, grandson of Merryland founder P Subramaniam, is leading the effort to revive the legendary banner. Actor Aju Varghese is Visakh's co-producer.
This is 'lady superstar' Nayantara's return to Mollywood after nearly two years. This movie is also the first film to feature Nayantara and Nivin Pauly together in lead roles.
Announcing the movie, producer Visakh said the movie deals with a subject close to the new generation.
"When Dhyan narrated the story, we (Visakh and Aju Varghese) instantly decided that this could be our first film together," Visakh said. "Nivin also agreed to join the team soon after listening the story," he said.
They then had discussions about the heroin for Nivin Pauly and both the producers and director felt that Nayantara would be ideal for the role. "But, everyone was apprehensive over whether Nayantara would be willing to work with them," Visakh said.
Finally, it was Dhyan who mustered the courage to take up the phone and call Nayantara.
"I can give you 30 minutes to narrate the story. If I don't like it, I will immediately reject your project," the actor reportedly said.
Then, the director explained the plot to Nayantara. "For the first 10 minutes, the actor looked very serious," Visakh said. "But, the mood changed afterwards. It was laughter all the way till the narration ended. And the project got rolling," he said.
The film also roped in many leading artists of the industry, including music director Shaan Rahman and national award-winning editor Vivek Harshan. Chennai will be the location and shooting will start during May.
Nivin Pauly is reportedly shedding weight for the movie. Visakh and Aju are planning to release 'Love Action Drama' by the end of this year.
