Kolkata: Iraq beat Chile 3-0 to further strengthen the qualifying chances in a Group F game of the FIFA U-17 World Cup at the Vivekananda Yuba Bharati Krirangan here on Wednesday.

Mohammed Dawood netted a double for the Iraqians and missed out on a hat-trick as an injury time penalty was saved by Chilean goalkeeper Rodrigo Cancino.

Chile had conceded four in their previous game against England where their first choice keeper Julio Borquez ended up getting sent off in the dying stages of the game. Cancino took charge in between the sticks for the South American's in what was a must-win game for them.

Dawood scored early in the 7th minute with a right footed shot from a difficult angle to the bottom right corner of the net and later in the 68th minute from a direct free kick.

Things went from bad to worse for Chile as an unfortunate deflection off Diego Valencia put Iraq 3-0 up.

Iraq outclassed Chile in all departments of the game. They also enjoyed most of the ball possessions and also had more chances toward goal.

With this win, Iraq is in the second position in Group F with four points from two matches, behind England who has six points. Iraq's next encounter is against the Group leaders England, where a draw would earn them the pre-quarters.

Earlier, they earned a draw against Mexico in their tournament opener.
