IFFI-land breathes memories of KR Mohanan The gathering of over 60 people, including filmmakers, critics and other delegates, shared their memories of Mohanan, who used to attend the festival until last year.

Panaji: Film buffs from Kerala gathered here on Wednesday in memory of eminent filmmaker K R Mohanan who passed away earlier this year.

The gathering of over 60 people, including filmmakers, critics and other delegates, shared their memories of Mohanan, who used to attend the festival until last year.

The informal gathering was held on the premises of the Inox theatre complex, the main venue of the International Film Festival of India.

Remembering Mohanan, noted film critic V K Joseph said we live in at a time when Mohanan's films become more relevant. “As revivalism and fascism strengthens in our society, Mohanettan's films become more relevant. I would like to believe that he is still among us," he told the informal gathering.

He also remembered that Mohanan was in the forefront when some delegates of the IFFI 2015 decided to stage a protest by wearing black badges in solidarity with the agitation that had been going on in FTII, Pune, that time.

Critic G P Ramachandran echoed similar views and said Mohanan was always concerned about others. "He was a simple and humble person despite his high stature as a filmmaker," he remembered.

Many attended the gathering wearing a t-shirt with the departed filmmaker's photograph printed on it. Delegates from other states also joined the gathering.

Mohanan, known for his critically acclaimed works, Ashwathama (1978), Purushartham (1987) and Swaroopam (1992), died in Thiruvananthapuram in June.

He had won several awards including national award for best feature film in Malayalam twice.

A prominent player in the Malayalam parallel film movement, Mohanan had also served as chairperson of Kerala State Chalachitra Academy.
