New Delhi: Union environment minister Anil Madhav Dave has said that the Center will probe encroachment allegations in Munnar and action will be taken against the culprits.
"Priority is always for protecting the environment in the hill station. If the allegations of encroachments are proven, then strict action would be taken," the minister added.

Earlier, union minister of state for consumer affairs C.R. Choudhary had submitted a report to the Center stating that large-scale constructions at the ecologically fragile Munnar could lead to big disasters in the future.
Pointing out the decreasing green cover of the hill station, Choudhary had said that actions will be taken against encroachments. "This needs to be stopped, irrespective of which party is behind it," the minister had added.
Munnar has been at the center of raging debate in Kerala with opposition UDF and BJP raising allegations that CPM leaders of the ruling LDF were behind the encroachment.
