'NCP leader threatened to kill Uzhavoor Vijayan' NCP state secretary Sulfikar Mayoori and late NCP leader Uzhavoor Vijayan.

Kochi: Nationalist Congress Leader (NCP) Uzhavoor Vijayan got life threatening calls from a party leader just before his death late last month. Manorama News accessed the phone record of the conversation between the late Vijayan and Agro Industries Corporation chairman and NCP state secretary Sulfikar Mayoori.

In the audio recording, Mayoori is heard saying that he would 'finish Vijayan off'. "I would beat him (Vijayan) up. I am even ready to kill him. I won't hesitate to throw away one or two crores for that," Mayoori is heard saying to another NCP leader. Closely after this conversation with the NCP leader, Sulfikar dialed up Vijayan in person and allegedly showered abuses on him.

Vijayan's aide and NCP leader Satheesh Kallakkode had recently told the media about this phone call. At the end of this call, Vijayan swooned and had to be taken to the hospital, Satheesh said.

'Pinarayi was aware of threats'

During Manorama News talk show, Counter Point, the Nationalist Youth Congress (NYC) state president Mujeeb Rahman said the Kerala CM's political secretary knew about the threat faced by the late NCP leader. Kerala chief minister Pinarayi Vijayan also knew about it, Naushad Khan, a business man from Kayamkulam said during the program.

Sulfikar Mayoori refutes charges

Meanwhile, Sulfikar Mayoori refuted the charges and said that the sound in the audio clip was not his. Mayoori also challenged his detractors to prove the allegations.

But Mujeeb Rahman reiterated Sufikar Mayoori had made the threatening call. While denying the charges against him, Mayoori had alleged Mujeeb Rahman's sound was heard in the record. He also challenged Rahman to prove it otherwise.

In his response, Rahman said he was ready to take up the challenge.

Satheesh said that he was privy to the conversation in which Mayoori allegedly threatened Vijayan. The heated exchange left the NCP leader heartbroken and exhausted, Satheesh said.

Satheesh had stated that some NCP leaders were putting tremendous pressure on Vijayan to force him to quit the post of NCP state president. The rivals in the party even targeted his family. Vijayan could not apparently withstand the mounting stress, he added.

Recalling a phone conversation between Vijayan and Mayoori, Satheesh told the media that Vijayan was so hard pressed and he even broke out once at Sulfikar Mayoori. Vijayan told Mayoori that he had cardiac problems and if anything happened to him, it would be because of Mayoori.

Uzhavoor Vijayan died at a private hospital in Kochi on July 23.
