Kochi: Dileep may not have had much luck at the court, but from what has been transpiring at the Aluva sub-jail, one should assume times are looking up for the embattled Malayalam actor who has been under custody for conspiracy charges in the February 17 actress attack case.
Dileep, in custody since July 10, has seen a run of bad luck with the courts turning down multiple bail applications so far. Despite not being able to come out on bail he shouldn't be missing much company as of now, as the jail has seen a steady flow of visitors in the last few days.
The first major visit was by wife and actress Kavya Madhavan and daughter Meenakshi. Friend Nadhirshah had also visited the actor in jail on the same day, after his latest bail application was rejected by the High Court even though relief came in a permission to attend his father's anniversary rites on September 6, from 7.00 am to 11.00 am.
After the recent relief plea was dismissed, it was fixed that Dileep will spend Onam in jail. It was then that the focus shifted to the various visitors he was getting. One of the first was actor Jayaram, a colleague and a longtime friend, who expressed disbelief when Dileep was arrested in relation with the sexual assault of the actress.
Jayaram had visited Dileep in the jail and gifted 'Onakkodi'.
With the actor slated to emerge out in the open on Wednesday, there are more VIPs from the film fraternity queuing up to meet him. The latest on the list was actor-turned legislator Ganesh Kumar, who visited Dileep at the jail and later spoke to the media in support of the actor.
“The film fraternity must declare support for the actor. He is innocent till proven guilty,” Ganesh said adding that if there has been an error on the part of the police, the chief minister will correct it. Ganesh, a legislator with considerable influence in the incumbent ministry and the film fraternity had even earlier emerged in support of the actor at a meeting by AMMA, the organization for Malayalam actors.
With the chorus rising in favor of the actor, more and more of the Mollywood who's who had been voicing support or expressing doubts about the 'aspersions' cast on the actor, which the police say are backed by strong evidence.
The court had earlier said that the hearings will be conducted via Skype considering the security threats to the actor and had accepted the prosecution contention that the actor was extremely powerful and influential in the industry and his bail, if sanctioned could potentially derail the investigation which is in the final stages. During the course of the investigation the police had said that the prime accused 'Pulsar' Suni and Dileep had actively conspired the attack in the sets of the aforesaid movie.
