Kochi: Noted guitarist Emil Isaac, credited for starting the first western musical band in Kochi, died at a private hospital here on Wednesday. He was 70.
The noted musician was bed-ridden after he suffered a paralytic stroke in 2011 and had been hospitalized since December 27. He had performed alongside renowned singers KJ Yesudas during live music shows.
He was the chief guitarist for popular singer Usha Uthup's band and he had composed music for many of her albums and songs. he was the chief sound recordist at the Studio Vibrations, started by Usha in 1982.
Then for the next three decades, he worked from Kolkata. After he suffered the paralytic stroke about 8 years ago, he returned to his home town, putting the curtains on his music career.
The eldest son of violinist Joe Isaac and singer Emilda, Emil had celebrated his 70th birthday along with his dear and near ones on December 18. The funeral will be held Thursday.
