Kozhikode: Two labourers were killed when an under-construction building collapsed at Chinthavalappu near here on Thursday. Kismat and Jabbar, Bihar natives, were crushed under the debris.
Eight of the labourers were at the site when the building collapsed. The Kasaba police and fire brigade rescued six labourers and took them to the Government Medical College Hospital, Kozhikode.
The incident happened around 4 pm on Thursday. Loose earth heaped up in the construction area caved in, bringing down the structure. A company named, D&D, had taken up the construction of the building - a shopping complex for a Kasaragod native.
City police commissioner S Kaliraj Mahesh Kumar, collector U V Jose and mayor Thottathil Raveendran are also at the spot.

The foundation of the building on Ram Mohan Road was nearing completion. Land adjacent to the building caved in and caused the tragedy.
